The Greatest is Gone

‘Off The Wall’ holds as much power and secrets for me as ‘Pet Sounds’ or ‘Sgt. Peppers’. Quincy Jones is a brilliant producer and arranger but the genius of that record is all Michael. I listened to it so much as a kid I had to go buy another copy because the grooves on the record got worn down -- I would take it with me to friends houses and we would dance around with our Star Wars figures…

IMO Michael Jackson was the greatest performer ever. We want you back Michael!

Dance!

Today I put together a rough mix of a new tune I’m producing called ‘Only Girl in the Room’. I wrote it with SpaceHeat.

It’s a pop smash.

No joke -- this will get your booty on the floor.

Like Sat Night Fever, like Dee-Lite, like The Walflowers… oops, I think I’m the only one who dances to ‘One Headlight’. It’s that kick drum, four on the floor. Someone should do a re-mix of it, speed it up a little and get Lady GaGa on there.

I would buy it.

Anyhow, you know what I mean. This new number is steeped in a groove and I DIG it. Haha!

Volume

I like to turn music up LOUD. But it all makes more sense when you record at a lower volume. The louder you make everything, the quieter/smaller everything gets. This is a truth I constantly struggle with.

Worked with Jess Furman today who is a great singer-songwriter. I’m producing a new song for her called ‘In The Dark’. It’s BEAUTIFUL. I’ve written and produced some music with her over this past year.

If you haven’t heard her yet, or don’t know who she is, please check her out:

When you go to the site the song that plays is called ‘Count on Me’. Jess and I wrote it together and I produced it. It was mixed by Jack LeTourneau.
